Sometime last year I was driving home and listening to the radio. The presenter introduced a singer and mentioned she was due to perform locally...the singer turned out to be Krista Detor...the song she sang was haunting. I pulled my car to the side and scrambled for a peice of paper and pen to record the name so as to check her out in itunes. I was delighted to hear also the details as to where she was playing. It turned out to be the Bronte Centre in Rathfriland so I made plans to attend. I can tell you I was not disappointed, nor were the two friends I brought with me.
And so when it came to choosing someone to help us kick off our Cultural Evenings I arranged with Andy Peters her agent in Ireland, and promoter at the Bronte Centre, to invite Krista to perform in concert here in Tobar Mhuire on Sunday 3rd April at 7pm. The concert will be in aid of our Building Fund and tickets are now available we suggest a donation of £20.... during the interval tea and biscuits will be provided as part of the evening. Do plan to join us for what promises to be a great night. As well as having an entertaining evening, you will at the same time be supporting the work of the local Passionist Community. Her latest album is called Chocolate Paper Suites.. it has attracted a lot of interest indeed it is required reading in an academic course in the famous Stanford University........ Krista Detor Speaks & Performs at Stanford University, FALL 2010- “Chocolate Paper Suites is now required reading for my course, "The 'isms of Modernism," in which we seek to explore modernism's impact on, and negotiation with, contemporary culture and art. This album provides an excellent example of how the the most salient elements of modernist art and philosophy persist in postmodern culture. Its poetic and intertextual lyrics, captivating melodies, meaningful organization, and complex narrative thread will undoubtedly lead to rich discussions among my students. Rod Taylor, Stanford University I can't promise that you will graduate with a degree from Stanford after hearing her, however, I have no doubt you will have been well entertained and done a good thing as well.
